Natural products and medical starting from the marine biomass
Neptune and the University of Sherbrooke extraientl' red gold of Krill!
Sherbrooke, Monday February 4, 2002 ? Work of a professor of the University of Sherbrooke and its team is at the origin of a new industry, Neptune technologies & bioressources, which has been just established in Technoparc de Sherbrooke to produce natural products and medical starting from marine biomasses.
Adrien Beaudoin, reprocessed professor of the Faculty of Science, and its assistance Genevieve Martin indeed discovered, there or of the Russian and Japanese teams had failed, of the processes of extraction of the marine biomasses. The principal components of this biomass are the krill, the marine wolf, the fish residues, the algae and several other marine resources under-exploited or simply put at the reject.
This discovery will make it possible Neptune to produce as of June 2002 and under exclusive licence of the University, the oil of krill Neptune Krill Oil MC , of the protein concentrate Neptune Aquatéine MC and, in addition, to extract some from phospholipides. The monthly production will gradually reach 5 000 to 6 000 liters of oil of krill and 20 000 kilos of protein concentrate.
The extracts, and particularly those of the krill, a very red oil, are rich in polyinsaturés fatty acids, phospholipides, antioxydants and other essential and largely desirable ingredients bioactifs which contribute to improve the human wellbeing and to control diseases.
Phase 1 of the plan of industrialization of Neptune rests on an approximate investment of 4 500 000 $. This first phase consists in arranging an existing industrial building located on the street Pépin: "We are located at Sherbrooke very close to the University and an interesting critical mass specialists, to which belonged our first associated researcher, Adrien Beaudoin.
