I know you have them everyone has them. It’s what scrapbookers do with them that separate them from everyone else. I’m talking about pictures, heaps and piles tucked away in boxes, closets and drawers.

Scrapbookers like to take those pictures and memories and preserve them in creative, colorful, and wonderful ways. Others fill boxes and drawers in jumbled, unorganized fashion and pretend they could find stuff again if need be.

I must confess until a couple years ago I was in the second category! I hadn't even heard of scrapbooking until I went to the local mall and noticed that a scrapbook store had opened. They had markers and colored papers and neat scissors and stamps and stickers. They had really cute example pages laid at to look. The possibilities were endless and the finished product was so incredible.

I was hooked after I put the first page together! I saw these great photos that hadn’t been looked at in who knows how long along with all the memories and I just wanted to keep going and going. The more involved I became, the more I loved doing it.

Trying to find time and energy for this new hobby can be a challenge, but I can promise you that you will be happy with the end results in the long run. I’m finally doing something I love to do. I just wish I could get paid to do it!

There are several reasons why scrapbooking is so popular.

It is a great creative outlet. There are so many possibilities that unless you want them to be, no two albums are alike.

It cuts down on picture stacks around the house. I hated having all those pictures in a box in the closet.

It can be a social activity if you like to get together with others and share ideas and supplies.

To me it was more than just putting pictures into a scrapbook I was creating heirlooms, priceless scrapbooks full of stories of our family, our life. And because today's products are so high in quality, these wonderful scrapbooks can be passed down to the next generation.

I started my business so that others like me could get a high quality album and supplied to make there own book of memories to pass on. I am nervous but very excited about starting this business. I believe in my scrapbooks and products and know I will be helping others preserve their memories for the future. I call my business TheBearCottage.com I specialize in handmade scrapbooks. I found a poem by Pam Harazim called The Strangers in the Box. It says very eloquently why everyone should have Memory Albums:

Come, look with me inside this drawer
In this box I've often seen
At the pictures, black and white
Faces Proud, still and serene

I wish I knew the people
These strangers in the box
Their names and all their memories
Are lost among the socks.

I wonder what their lives were like,
How did they spend their days?
What about their special times?
I'll never know their ways.
If only someone would have taken time,
to tell who, what, and when,
Those faces of my heritage
Would come to life again.
Could this become the fate
of the pictures we take today?
The faces and the memories
Someday to be tossed away.
Make time to save your pictures
Seize the opportunity when it knocks
or someday you and yours could be
the strangers in the box.

I love that I can help others preserve their precious memories as only they can do. I encourage all of you to not just save your photos but also tell the story surrounding it the good times, as well as the not so good times of your lives. I hope that you too can have a passion in your life. This is the only life we have, and we deserve to be happy.
