Folliculitis is caused by a bacterial infection or friction against the skin from sweaty stockings or too tight clothes.
To prevent ingrown hairs, shave in the direction of hair growth. It’s also important to keep the area well exfoliated so a surface layer of dry skin doesn’t keep hair from growing out straight. For the bikini area, Try this regimen: First, wash with a mild salicylic acid or glycolic acid cleanser to exfoliate. Then apply a prescription vitamin A cream such as offered by Joey New York Skincare, which will unclog the pore so the hair can grow properly.
For ingrown hairs on the legs where skin is less sensitive, start with a salicylic or glycolic acid wash or a grainy exfoliator from Joey New York Skincare.
