Cable problems - which this fix does not help at all for), you may be worried about spending a lot of money to get it fixed or sending it into Microsoft and waiting 3 weeks to maybe get it fixed. Truly it takes less than 30 dollars to fix it yourself in less than one hour. But if your not willing to spend that, the Xbox 360 towel trick is the cheap and easy solution. It only takes a short amount of time, and can potentially work.
Many people have tried the towel trick for Xbox 360, and many people have reported that it works (but not all)l. However there is a downside, according to some reports, it can potentially damage your Xbox. But that is not the real downside. The real downside is that the towel trick doesn't actually fix your Xbox 360. It is very very temporarily. It takes about 20 minutes and lasts only a short time, as in a couple hours to as much as a few days removes your Red Ring of Death, and then you have to repeat it, over and over again.

Anyways, here is the full breakdown on how to do the Xbox 360 Towel Trick Fix (There are many videos on youtube and other video sites for the towel trick fix. However, this is the method i believe works most often).
1. First get 3 large Towels.
2. Turn your Xbox 360's power on.
3. Place your Xbox 360 flat on the ground.
4. Center one towel on top of the Xbox 360.
5. Wrap around Xbox 360 to cover as completely as possile.
6. Wrap the other two towels around your Xbox 360.
7. Let your Xbox 360 sit for 15 - 25 minutes.
8. Remove the towels from your Xbox 360.
8. Turn your Xbox 360 off and on again.
9. Viola, your Xbox 360 is temporarily fixed for between 3 hours and 3 days.
