Every day is like vacation. This beautiful private lake is suitable for virtually all water sports including skiing and wake boarding, and it is only 30 minutes from Buckhead. Leave the rat race of Atlanta and relax in your waterfront home. You will quickly forget the city as you kick back in the rural setting of this charming, tree lined lake.
Cast for dinner off your private dock but don't be surprised if you tie into a 10 pound largemouth bass. Or join the birdwatchers and enjoy huge varieties of birds and other wildlife that are prolific in the region. Weekends usually find three or four pontoon party boats rafted together in the center of the lake as swimmers, young and old, drift about in the cool lake waters. Perhaps there are one or two wake boarders circling the lake showing off their newest jump or flip. This is one the very few lakes withing a couple of hours of Atlanta that is not restricted as to use and boat horsepower. The only restrictions on the lake are you should circle counter clockwise and boats shall not exceed 20 feet in length. Only residents members and their guests are allowed access to Norris Lake.
Sometimes it feels like you are stuck in the 1970's as the several vintage power boats take to the waves. And that is how should feel. Norris Lake was created in 1936 as a Fishing Camp featuring a number of small fishing cabins to serve as weekend retreats for the Atlanta City Slickers. Most of the original cabins have been dozed and new spacious year round waterfront homes now stand in their place but there remain a few tiny, block boathouses, barely large enough for a modern boat. It's quite amazing to see these tiny throwbacks to the 1950's right next door to a $80,000 high tech wake board machine or a $30,000 party pontoon boat. Jet ski's and wave runners are also quite prolific in the area but seldom do you find more than one on the lake at a time.
New waterfront homes are still being built on this hidden lake, just minutes from Atlanta. Norris Lake has a Snellville, GA mailing address but it is located part in Gwinnett and part in Dekalb and is just a short hop from Rockdale County. Travelling from Snellville to the Stonecrest Mall you will pass within a half mile of the lake and never even know it is there. So convenient, the lake is just seven minutes from the Wal-Mart Super Center and Publix in Centerville and 15 minutes from Conyers, Snellville and the Stonecrest Mall. Both downtown Snellville and the Stonecrest Mall offer fantastic shopping as virtually every Big Box store is represented and an extensive collection of high end Boutiques. These waterfront homes offer some of the finest advantages of country living and all the advantages of living in Atlanta. It is truly country living at it's finest.....vacation is every day at Norris Lake.
Waterfront homes can be purchased for as low as $150,000 or as much as $350,000. Since most of Norris Lake is located in Gwinnett County, most children in the area are a part of the award winning Gwinnett School District.
