Your identity is extremely important and so if it gets stolen, the process of getting it back can be very long and tedious! Not only that, but your credit report gets damaged by the thief who stole your identity and fixing a credit report as we all know is difficult and takes a very long time as well.
In our other article we have covered thee important ways to prevent your identity from getting stolen. However, there are yet more ways. The next thing you can do is after browsing the internet make sure you clear the cache of your web browser - especially after accessing secure online banking sites and websites where you have entered your personal information and credit card or debit card information in order to make your online purchase. If you use your own personal laptop or desktop PC, the risk of your identity getting stolen is a little less than when using a public computer, but even so, it is definitely better to be safe than sorry. The reason for doing this is so that the web browser does not remember what you have entered which another person could check up on by analyzing your history and logs contained in the web browser.
Another way to prevent identity theft is to make sure you make physical appearances at your bank regularly. I know Bank of America has debit cards that allow you to put your photo on them which definitely decreases the risk of your identity being stolen but actually visiting and being seen there is important too. Also, call up your banks and credit card companies; request that every time anyone (even if you know that it is just going to be yourself calling) calls in, and make sure they ask for the verbal password. Obviously you need to remember this password too otherwise you wouldn't be able to access your own account! Of course this method might seem radical and even overkill but think about it, people who know you well enough will know all your basic information like your full name, date of birth, your address and even your social security number (not just the last 4 digits)! Therefore, it is definitely advisable to activate that extra layer of protection because you never know who you can really trust.
Of course there are many other ways to prevent identity theft and financial institutions are becoming more vigilant now more than ever; especially now that we are all facing a tough economic depression. Crime rates are going up because people are losing their jobs and need money to survive so they resort to crime to sustain themselves and their family. Even though it is hardly likely that your identity may get stolen, as the saying goes, "it is better to be safe than sorry."
