There are shoes and then there are sexy shoes. The difference can be subtle and rather obvious so we explore sexy shoes from sandals to platform shoes. Sexy sandals are often referred to as sexy due to the height of the heels, color or design elements. First is heel height and this can be applied to all women's shoes as the height of the heels is a factor in whether it is considered sexy or not. While some women prefer a low heel for comfort, others want a 3, 4 or even 5 inch heel for a very dramatic and sexy look. What you gain in sexiness you will certainly lose in comfort. As every woman who has suffered through an evening in a pair of high heels will attest wearing heels can be excruciatingly painful. They say women suffer for fashion and this must be what they mean.
The higher the heel, the more pronounced the angle your foot rests thus the pain increases as the height of the heel increases. So why wear high heels? One great reason is they make a woman's legs look sexy and elongated by the illusion created by walking with your heels higher than your toes. It is certainly not a natural position for the foot and you pay for it but you look amazing in the process. Color is a factor with sandals that can make them very festive and as a result sexy. Sandals are often found in shiny colors, purple, mauve, burnt orange and many more colors that change with the seasons. Often sandals are strappy with straps criss crossing the foot and legs giving a gladiator look or a very dramatic climbing the leg look that is mesmerizing. Sandals also often have rhinestone details, ribbon details and other too various to mention accoutrements that add shine, drama and effects drawing attention to your lovely feet and legs.
Pumps are also referred to as single sole shoes and this is because they have a wafer thin sole that likely offers little if any support for your feet. Closed toe and open toe shoes are just that and closed toe shoes are often referred to as pumps. The classic pump is a mainstay of women's shoes and is available in 2, 3, 4 as well as 5 or 6 inch heel heights. Again the 2 and 3 inch pump are very popular in the business world as they are dressy yet not ostentatious. Comfort is relative but a woman can "last" all day in a pair of 3 inch heels although she may need a soak to prepare for the next day. The 4 and 5 inch heels are much sexier due in part to the pointed toe aspect and the heel height that again offers that sexy foot angle that may look tortuous and perhaps that is part of the allure. May equate the unique, feminine aspect of parading around in shoes that are primarily meant to excite the opposite sex as a factor in the sexy in sexy shoes. The 6 inch heels fall into the category of fetish heels as they are almost painful to look at, much less stand in for any period of time. They are not unlike ballerina shoes screaming pain and discipline as well as sexy with a capital S.
Open toe shoes are very popular and deservedly so as they are feminine with a woman's toes peeping out but can be painful to wear as the toes are often squeezed together unmercifully. This of course occurs with pointed toe shoes as well as the shoes come to a point, which you don't find in men's shoes. The pointier the shoes, the sexier they look.
Mules, Slides are women's shoes that offer a strap over the foot near the toes that you slide into with no straps at the ankles. The mules or slides can be either a low or high heel although the higher heels with no straps do not offer the support provided by ankle straps. Mules and slides come in a wide variety of styles and colors and some women prefer the slides while other want the ankle straps which give a completely different look and feel.
Platform shoes are a widely misunderstood as many women perceive them as "stripper shoes" or "hooker shoes". It is true that many exotic dancers have made platforms the sexy shoes of choice as they come in heel heights up to 10 inches. The truth is that platforms can be very comfortable to wear as the platform reduces the angle of the foot thus making them more comfortable to wear although the height certainly takes some getting used to. Standing 2 to 3 inches high off the ground is not much for most women who are used to wearing heels from a relatively early age. On the other hand wearing platform shoes 4, 5 or 7 inches off the ground can be dangerous as a twist of the ankle in a pair of flip flops can be painful, a twisted ankle in a pair of 7 inch platform, particularly without ankle straps can be dangerous. Many dancer's prefer ankle straps on their platforms for comfort and safety. Many platforms are clear Lucite and synonymous with dancer's shoes. The stigma of a girl wearing dancer's is apparently too much for many women to over come which may explain the popularity of these shoes seemingly limited.
Regardless of you preferences women's shoes can be sexy and seductive or functional and comfortable. While it is true that the higher the heel the less likely you will be comfortable wearing them all day but many times these shoes are not a functional work item making them best suited for evening wear, parties and dancing at the clubs. You can always take them off and walk back to the car and complain how much your feet hurt, all the way home. Women suffer for fashion and frankly we are glad they do.
