NOSTRADAMUS His prophetic gifts became known to the world in 1555, when Nostradamus published the first of 10 books, entitled CENTURIES. So successful was the book, that Catherine de'Medici, the Queen Consort, asked him to cast horoscopes of her children. In 1560, Nostradamus was appointed Court Physician. Through different methods: dream recall, casting horoscopes, gazing into a bowl of water and spontaneous flashes of intuition, Nostradamus saw the future. Once, Nostradamus saw a monk, a young man who had been a poor swineherd until recently. He astounded the monk by falling to his knees and saying, "I kneel before your Holiness." Years later, the monk would become Pope Sixtus V.
In the years since, the accuracy of his written predictions have kept his books in print. His predictions of the life and death of Queen Elizabeth I, the Great Fire of London in 1666, the French Revolution, the life of Adolf Hitler, right down to the latest world events, keep his writings fresh.
Erika Cheetham, who has translated and interpreted his works, has proven equally gifted. Here is her 1973 interpretation of Nostradamus' Century I "New City" quatrain: "Attack on New York? An explosion in the centre of the city of New York making the land tremble, or could 'tour' here mean towers or skyscrapers?" 9/11 for sure! The quatrain goes on to describe the ensuing war.

EMANUEL SWEDENBORG Born in Stockholm in 1688, the son of a Court Chaplain, Emanuel Swedenborg would go on to become an accomplished philosopher, poet, mathematician, astronomer, theologian, mystic and prophet. Speaking 11 languages, able to communicate with spiritual forms, a sensitive visionary, Swedenborg created modern psychology, occultism, spiritualism and founded a new Christian denomination. At age 48, he began having intense dreams. He learned to recall and record his dreams. Through a gradual understanding of dream interpretation, he began studies in mediumship and the occult. Guided by dreams of Christ, he balanced his psychic awareness with an intense Religious energy. His dreams and visions became more centered in precognition and prophecy.
With books such as APOCALYPSE REVEALED, DIVINE LOVE AND WISDOM, FOUR DOCTRINES and TRUE CHRISTIAN RELIGION, he influenced and inspired people for generations after, including Abraham Lincoln, the author de Balzac, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Edgar Allen Poe, Carl Jung and Helen Keller.

RASPUTIN Even as a child in Siberia, Grigori Rasputin showed an uncommon sensitivity to others. He loved animals, especially horses. Much later, the people of his village would tell how he could walk into a stable and "soothe even the fiercest animal with a touch. Grigori would talk to them in a language nobody else could understand."
After training at the Christian monastery at Verkhotuve, he set out on a spiritual quest that took him to Mt. Athos and Jerusalem. It was during this arduous pilgrimage that his powers to heal the sick and predict the future evolved.
When Rasputin arrived in St. Petersburg in 1905, he already had a reputation as a mystic monk and healer. There, he continued to administer to the sick and needy.
In 1907, the Tsarina called on Rasputin to tend her haemophiliac son, Alexei. Rasputin tended the boy, who made a miraculous recovery. The Tsarina believed the mystic monk was sent by God in answer to her prayers. She asked Rasputin to stay with the Royal Family. The court physicians, envious, began a campaign of rumors and lies. Later, jealous royal members added to Rasputin's enemies and the false image of Rasputin as the "mad monk" was created.
One night in December, 1916, Rasputin was invited by Prince Felix Yossupov to visit his palace. There, the plot to assassinate the monk was unleashed. They watched him drink several glasses of poisoned wine and eat tea cakes laced with potassium cyanide. But the energetic "mad monk" showed no ill effects. In fact, he began to lecture them on Christian values. Enraged, Prince Felix drew a pistol and shot the monk. And shot him again. Rasputin stood up and smashed through a bolted door. Prince Felix chased him with a knife, caught up to the staggering monk and stabbed him. An accomplice reached them and beat Rasputin with an iron chain, before wrapping the chain around the bleeding body. They dragged Rasputin out onto the frozen Neva River and dropped him through a hole in the ice. Later, when the body was recovered, it was determined that Grigori Rasputin died from drowning.
Thanks to the efforts of a few believers, including his own daughter, the true story of Grigori Rasputin, the mystic monk is beginning to be told.
EDGAR CAYCE "The most gifted psychic of our time" was born in rural Kentucky in 1877 and became a trance healer, psychic, prophet and visionary who saw both the past and the future. As a child he had visions of speaking to his departed relatives. When only 7 he heard a voice from the forest ask him, "Your prayers have been heard. What would you ask of me?" He answered, "I'd like to be able to help other people, especially sick children."
He learned first by healing himself: all he had to do was go into a trance and he would be given the answer. That began a famous career. Local doctors found they only needed to give him the name and address of a patient and he would give them the diagnosis.
He gradually evolved from giving medical evaluation of people to giving Life Readings -- astounding descriptions of peoples lives, past, present and future. Beyond that, he began to have visions of the past and future of the Earth herself.

HELEN DUNCAN The Scottish-born medium developed a devoted following for her psychic skills starting in the early 1930's.
She had lived a hard life. Her husband Henry had been injured during the Great War and struggled to make a living as a carpenter. She had twelve pregnancies, with six children surviving. To support the family, Helen worked in a factory by day, and held her remarkable seances at night.
Again and again, she proved her abilities and built a reputation.
During WWII, Helen was able to get relatives in touch with men and women killed by the war -- the detail of information brought forth, amazed the relatives and worried the authorities. During a seance, she felt the presence of a sailor of the Royal Navy with the name H.M.S.BARHAM on his cap and told the audience that his ship had been sunk. When the news reached the public, the Admiralty denied that the ship had been sunk. Helen was arrested as a spy. When those charges couldn't be proven, she was charged under the Witchcraft Act of 1735. The evidence used against her? Her own success as a psychic!
Thus began a series of legal battles.
Finally, when police raided a seance she was holding in Nottingham, they rushed in and grabbed her, intending to strip search her. The police didn't know that they had broken a law -- a Psychics's Law -- you NEVER touch a medium in a trance. Helen collapsed on the floor. A doctor discovered two second degree burns across her stomach where she was grabbed. She was rushed to the hospital, where she died.
