The annual Youth Wildlife Camp hosted by the Oklahome Wildlife Department is held at Camp McFadden adjacent to Kaw Lake.

In June 2006 forty-two applicants between the ages of 14-16 participated in activities all week which included training, lectures, shooting guns and bows, ropes course and many other activities.

Activites included:

Low elements of the ropes course.
High Ropes Course

Seining - a fisheries technique

The camp has 6 air-conditoned cabins which hold 10 each, a bathhouse with showers, an air conditioned and heated lodge with full kitchen, High and Low Ropes Courses, above ground swimming pool, trails, ponds, canoes, and many outdoor activities and games. There are electrical hookups for 6 Rvs and lots of space for tent camping.

This breath-taking location on over 250 acres overlooking the west side of Kaw Lake provides a variety of facilities for families, companies, church and youth groups. Weddings, reunions of all kinds, team building, week long camps, getaways, and many other functions are held at the camp.

The Camp McFadden High and Low Ropes Course is leadership and extreme sports rolled into one exciting adventure. Whether your looking for an all-day outdoor leadership workshop program (our McFadden Challenge Program) or just an Extreme Sports Adventure to challenge even the most daring, we can tailor the program to the needs of your group. The course is comprised of a collection of cables, platforms, logs, ropes, trees, and games grouped into high and low elements.

Its objectives are to:

Develop and strengthen the mental and physical skills of older youth and adults.

Offer a challenge to participants to accomplish a high level of self-confidence, individual self-worth, personal growth, and achievement.

Strengthen interpersonal relationship skills of older youth and adults so as to become a functioning team member.

The typical program is a day-long event that begins in the morning with warm-up exercises and games designed to promote trust and initiative among the participants. As the group progresses, they move to the low course elements that are similar to an obstacle course, but are designed to develop problem solving skills, communication, and team building.

More improvements and facilities are being added. A lot of projects have been completed, while more remain on the list to be done.

You can have a bonding experience with your family or group while just enjoying the camp or by working together on a project. While doing a project you can develop friendships, learn new skills, make a direct impact, use your creative skills, and try something new.

Many Eagle Scouts do their projects at Camp McFadden.

A water park is located one mile away.

Camp McFadden is 8 miles east of Ponca City, OK adjacent to the west side of Kaw Lake. Kaw lake is a good place to fish for Crappie, Catfish, and Walleye or enjoy water sports and sightseeing.
