"Rush, Rush, Rush. Compete, we must compete! kill our competitors, fight the hard fight!"
How many times have you felt this is the way in business these days? isn't it time things changed?
They have to change because the current way business operates is going to totally kill the economy and the planet. Yes, people want cheaper goods and its tough to keep up with the needs of the people but if we keep trying to keep all our customers we are fighting a losing battle. Why not create more niches? and let others create the cheap end of the maket.
Also educate people. If most people knew buying a pair of cheap trousers from a well know high street chain meant 10 children under the age of 16 were working 12 hours a day 7 days a week and this was highlighted everywhere manufacturers would have to change, retail would have to treat suppliers differently and the world would be a better place.
I support anyone who supports fairtrade, who treats customers as real humans instead of just a commodity or a number of pound signs.
It is time to step off the corporate bandwagon and begin using the Eastern approach to leadership within business. Instead of the top down management style why not manage from the inside out?
Does life not feel a struggle when you are constantly fighting the competition? Why not collaborate?
Many if not most businesses act like they are lighthouses but instead of standing still they are running up and down the shore line desperate to get customers to come their way. Well if I was a customer and I symbolised a boat on the shore trying to find my way safely to your business wouldn't I find you more easily if you stood still and allowed me to find you instead of the flashing neon sign you are transmitting saying "PLEASE BUY FROM ME!
Their is more than enough to go around and most people are afraid this is not the case and this simply breeds fear and desperate marketing campaigns.
I want to lead the way. I am female and I feel supporting, nurturing and collaboration is the way forward. If I put love and consideration into my business and I do well, my suppliers do well. The more I am able to sell, the more I am able to go that extra mile through my customer service the more I am able to share my abundance with others. What is more attractive a flashing yellow sale sign? or a business ran on good ethics and that actually contributes to this world we live in instead?
Some time ago I would have said the yellow sign but when I can, I buy fairtrade I check out labels, I ask myself what happened to create this dress that is costing me £5? how much does the fabric cost? who makes it? where does it come from? who's blood sweat and tears went into making this product? and why does it have to be this way?
Life is like a ripple and we need to consider what quality of ripples we are sending out on this planet now.
