The Chinese Auction is an event at which you bid for items by placing your tickets in one or more containers representing the items that you wish to win. Each Chinese Auction sheet contains 25 perforated tickets. A 26th perforated ticket is for a chance to win The Dys-Me! door prizes, sponsored by AULSHUI COCO and Web Design Genie.com (participants must be present to win The Dys-Me! door prize).

(Attention Bidders! For the Chinese Auction, you win by increasing your odds of your ticket being chosen from the container by placing a higher number of tickets into the container than anyone else. Additional Chinese Auction ticket sheets will be available at the event for you to do this)!

Remember, more tickets in the container = greater chances of winning!

What is Dystonia?

Dystonia is a neurological movement disorder in which sustained muscle contractions cause twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal postures. The disorder may be inherited or caused by other factors such as birth-related or other physical trauma to the head, infection or reaction to drugs. It can happen to anyone, at any time. It is one of the most difficult conditions to be diagnosed.

The most common dystonias and tend to be classified as follows:

• Cervical dystonia (spasmodic torticollis). This affects the muscles of the neck, causing the head to rotate to one side, to pull down towards the chest, or back, or a combination of these postures.

• Blepharospasm. This affects the muscles around the eyes. The sufferer experiences rapid blinking of the eyes or even their forced closure causing effective blindness.

• Oculogyric crisis. An extreme and sustained (usually) upward deviation of the eyes often with convergence causing diplopia. It is frequently associated with backwards and lateral flexion of the neck and either widely opened mouth or jaw cletching. Frequently a result of antiemetics such as the neuroleptics (e.g. prochlorperazine) or metoclopramide.

• Oromandibular dystonia. This affects the muscles of the jaw and tongue, causes distortions of the mouth and tongue.

• Spasmodic dysphonia. This affects the muscles of the larynx, causing the voice to sound broken or reducing it to a whisper.

Proceeds from this and other consecutive fundraising campaigns will be distributed amongst various Dystonia medical research organizations to support awareness and continue research for better treatments - and - a cure.

Mark your calendars ... see you there!

Don’t give up … Don't stop trying!
