Detroit, MI - There has been a recent surge in the number of people getting mugged in the metro Detroit area this week - all because of a recently launched charitable awareness campaign for a little known neuromuscular disease called Dystonia.
A new campaign launched by MGM Marketing, a guerrilla marketing company based in the metro Detroit area has caused a rise in area motorists getting mugged, but the purported victims say they are glad. The targeted victims of these muggings, are being greeted by participating area radio road scouts who are pulling them over when they spot identifiable bumper-stickers on their cars and leaving them with a "Dys-Me!" coffee mugg!
The campaign, aptly called the "Dys-Me!" campaign - is turning out to be an alarming success. The promotional campaign was designed to raise public awareness of Dystonia - a neuromuscular disease that can take on many forms such as "writers cramp". More specifically, Dystonia is a neurological disorder causing involuntary, sustained muscle contractions that result in repetitive movements, twisting and abnormal postures. An estimated 300,000 people in North America have Dystonia. Dystonia is beginning to affect so many people world wide, the urgency to raise awareness in hope of driving research to look for a cure, is becoming an important mission. Dystonia is often described by persons who suffer from it as being like "having an eternal Charlie horse twitch that never ends". The "Dys-Me!" promotion is the brain child of Marilla, founder of Marilla's Guerrilla Marketing ("MGM Marketing") - in honor of a friend she had who suffers with the condition.
This "Dys-Me!" promotion is the Second Phase of the Dystonia Awareness Don't Come Event campaign which is being kicked-off by area Radio Stations with some of the most popular local radio celebrity-personalities and participating area merchants who encourage you to join in the fray of the Dystonia Awareness Media-Blitz! The First Phase of the Dystonia Awareness Don't Come Event campaign was kicked-off on Valentine's Day in Michigan when Ellen Degeneres, Drew Carey and Stephen Colbert converged at the Hyatt-Regency for an exclusive fundraising dinner to speak on how "Having Dystonia is No Laughing Matter". Although none of the comedians actually have Dystonia, they want to share the sentiment - that for people who Do suffer with Dystonia lack of awareness is no laughing matter.
