Hand Crafter Sculpture of the Birth of Christ by Jennifer Grittner-Tack
I am a graduate from the University of Wisconsin – Superior where I received a B.S. degree in Art Education. During my college years I exhibited my work at the Kruk Gallery in Superior, Wisconsin and the Joy Kops Gallery in Duluth, Minnesota. After graduating, I taught in Watersmeet Michigan for three years as the K- 12 Art Instructor where I started and designed the Art program. In my third year of teaching, my son, William was born and he became my main priority. My husband Chad and I moved further North to Houghton Michigan in the Upper Peninsula where in 2004 our second son, John was born and our third child is on the way. During the few years of staying at home with my boys I have seriously gotten back into my Art. My children have ignited my passions - my faith, my family, and my art. My Art is a mixture of emotion and faith. It comes from my heart and I believe it is guided by a hand other than my own. I have a great devotion to our Lord’s mother, Mary whom is the subject of most of my work. With the inspiration of my faith and the support of my family I try to capture the love a mother has for her children through creating images of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Holy Family.

My strive as an artist roughly follows the lines of formalism, it is to create work that is its own entity, to be experienced as having its own division in space and reality and to have minimal correlation with any explicit subject matter. Both mine and the viewer’s relationship to my work is to be seen and experienced through the conception, the physical labor and the physical struggle that inevitably presents itself in the piece. This is my personal ideal and is what I venture to solidify in my work. I obtained my education from University of Wisconsin-Superior where I received a B.F.A. in Sculpture and a B.S. in Art Education. Along with being an artist I am also currently an art educator.

My overall artistic desire is to create an image that is not only formally successful but which also conveys the emotional aspects associated with my chosen subject matter. There are no limitations to the techniques I use to resolve my artistic intent.I strive to create an intimate relationship between the viewer and myself. I believe my work bridges the gap between the artist and the viewer by involving the common familiarity of subject matter, faith, experiences and their unending influence in the evolution of who we are as individuals. In 2001 I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Superior with a Bachelors degree in Art-Fibers. In 2003 I received another degree from Superior, a Masters in Art-Photography
