Orion an future search engine marketing

A new technology, developed by a PhD student in Australia has been bought by Google, obviously seeing a strong prospect for the search algorithm.

The 26 year old PhD student Ori Allon from New South Wales university in Australia have developed the algoritm that will, according to Google, revolutionize the search engine market.
The 8th of Septermber 2005 the first press release from the university was sent and the promissing programmer has now during the last period of the development worked in Googles facilities.
The techniques are in technical journals describes as revolutionary, but as for today it can only handle the English language.
Looking at the upcoming few years, personalized search doesn't look to stick as the hotest buzz word, Orion seems to be here to stay!

The description handed out by Google and Mr. Allon is somewhat poor, they have decided to emphasize two new functions:

1. Interresting text-peices in the results is fetched and displayed directly on the search page..
2. Results for related search phrases is presented, a search for search engine optimization could have resultet in results for SEO, search engine marketing, sponsored marketing etc..


These two functions aren't very revolutionay and it's also noticable that the first of these might violate copy right laws - depending on the size of the texts fetched.
The other of these two has allready been partly implemented by Google, but only for a very limited amount of phrases.
As for now, Google demands both a very strong relevance between the two search phrases and also a much larger amount of searches for the "extra-phrase", complementing the search.
When the engine becomes better and better on determining relevancy between two keywords, these above two factors will be just a memory, and most searches complemented.


How is Orion affecting search engine optimization?

It's direct effect will be that Google is forced to display what keywords are related with eachother, meaning SEOs all over the world will have a far easier work finding related terms.

Another large change for SEO, would Orion be implemented to a full extent, is CTR for text pieces.

A great text must not only be relevant for it's search phrases, but also encourage surfers to click - to deliver high leads and sales.
This new techniques are good for skilled SEOs and will most definetly negative for unskilled SEOs and SEOs without a strong connection to the classical marketing business.
Internetguides for learning search engine optimization will be heavily incorrect.

It seems however, that we have to wait for more detailed descriptions from Google before we analyze this subject any further. There might still be major functionality not yer mentioned, and some of the prior functions might be far more advanced than what is clear right now.

For personal SEOs working on their own sites this won't affect much - but for ebay-kind companies with very large amounts of indexed pages and products, this might be a huge boost or a hard blow.
