Buying Lingerie - Things you should know

Women buy lingerie all the time. Men, although reluctantly, usually buy for special occasions or to impress that special someone in their lives. The styles of lingerie have pretty much remained the same over the years except for an occasional new entry like boy shorts. Here's a short guide to some things you should know when shopping for lingerie.

Lingerie comes in different styles which are pretty much standard across all brands.

Bras are available in a variety of styles and fabrics. The important thing here is to find your correct size which is determined by a combination of measurements taking into account the size of the breast and back. Types of bras include under wire for support, padded for extra fullness, push-up, full cup, demi-cup and seamless for the smooth look underneath clothing. Fabrics can be natural or synthetic sheer, lace, embroidered, satin and silk, you name it and it can be found.

Panties continue to evolve in style hardly ever will you see the kind your mother or grandmother wore any more. The bikini, thong, g-string and of course the popular boy shorts, all offer varying degrees of coverage for both front and rear. The bikini gives full coverage front and rear with minimal coverage on sides. Boy shorts short resemble hot pants and offer ample front and side coverage and a good portion of your rear, some styles offer less coverage all around. A thong, a little more daring than the ones just mentioned, offers full to minimal coverage up front, none on the sides and in the rear a t-shape that leaves you exposed. They are great for eliminating panty lines. G-strings, only for the daring, offer very very minimal coverage in front and no coverage in the rear.

Corsets and bustiers remind you of the Victorian era; even so they are still very popular today. The corset is being worn today as both an undergarment and outerwear. The corset is constructed to force your body into certain proportions resulting in a curvy shape. Some styles are worn as party or on the town clothing. Bustiers are constructed similarly to corsets, but are shorter very similar to a long line bra, they are designed primarily to lift up and enhance the bust or cleavage.

Baby doll sets are two piece sets, a top or robe and matching bottom. The top is usually loose and short, falling just below the bust line. In some styles the top reaches down to the hips or just below. When you look at the gamut of lingerie available, most of it will fall into the two piece or baby doll category.

Camisoles are dainty little undershirts created especially for women. Most camisoles come with matching bottoms. Like corsets they are also sometimes used as outer wear, especially as party or club wear.

The Chemise is an tent (angular) shaped short flowing gown usually with matching bottom included. A chemise is the perfect piece for hiding the not so perfect figure while maintaining an alluring look.

Enjoy your lingerie shopping experience and choose any of the styles above for the look you desire for yourself or that special someone in your life.
