Jossie Cordoba Vergara was born in a beautiful little town known as La Paz de Chama in The Republic of Panama. Growing up near the seaside, she enjoyed the warmth of her family as well as the rhythm of the regional music. Her many hobbies included horseback riding, fishing with her grandparents, and helping with the cooking at grand fiestas.
Her mother, a folk singer, gave her the gift of a beautiful voice and great talent. She also helped transmit her love of music to her daughter, which Jossie expresses in her own words: “I have always dreamed of honoring my mother, and following in her footsteps since I was a little girl. She taught me a very intense love for music.”
Since childhood Jossie has loved music, always dreaming of someday becoming a famous singer. She has participated in many school events since she was a child, and captivated the audience at the tender age of six, winning applause and cries for more. Later she sang in church choirs and at any event in which she could possibly appear. Her love for singing and music has been the dominant and driving force behind her determination to perform for crowds.
Her unrelenting passion for music has led her to form musical bands with many culturally diverse musicians, yet her dreams led her even further, to the shores of the United States in 1994, and to even greater paths including songwriting composition. Jossie worked with an obsession at this craft of music, taking singing, dance, acting and music lessons, some times skipping meals and running from class to class, foregoing sleep and other diversions, just to catch another great teacher or class to further hone her skills. Jossie always sought out the very best talents to enhance her professionalism and attended modeling classes at John Casablanca’s to become further accomplished at her goals.
Jossie became a professional singer in 1996, when she participated in several important International Music Festivals and had the opportunity to tour Europe singing in Italy, France, Greece as well as many countries in South America.
This experience led Jossie to her next accomplishment, to direct her own performance of the Caliente Show, which was a great hit in Miami. But bigger and better things were about to happen.
Today, Jossie Cordoba is preparing for the release of her first CD, including all original compositions, being self produced and co-arranged, and featuring her incredible Caliente Band, and eight piece ensemble of the finest musicians in America, playing and singing with such intensity that there is no question that Jossie is headed to ‘the moon.’
“A Mover el Esqueleto”, her first release on Caliente Music Records, promises that she will capture not only the Latin public but diverse audiences around the globe. Her fusion of International rhythms and Latin Cumbia’s will intoxicate the musical palette the world over. The sensual and exotic voice of La Reina de la Cumbia will be available for all to enjoy.
