Copper.net: Early development
Copper.net was started in 1997 by Michael Hawk as a separate Internet service from ECR Computers & Internet Services. Copper.net's goal was to provide a low cost alternative for people who didn't want to pay for the unnecessary extras of the "premium" online services. Copper.net became the first ISP to offer annual Internet service for under $100 in the Columbus, Ohio market.
The end of the 90's brought about a unique situation within our industry. ISP's were being bought and sold at inflated prices, with some even moving to a "free" service model. After the shake up, Copper.net became focused on growing from a regional ISP to a recognized national provider. Our owner, Michael Hawk, was able to partner with various national networks and market Copper.net nationwide at the same price points ($9.95 monthly or $99.00 yearly).
2004 to present- Explosive growth!
2004 continues to be quite a year for us! The combination of a targeted Internet marketing campaign, our unique Referral Program, along with various other marketing methods is generating explosive growth for Copper.net. One of our strengths has always been the ability to adapt quickly to the forces and demands of our industry. To accommodate this growth, we increased our staff, extended our toll free support hours, redesigned our website, and improved our sign up procedures.
