Affiliate Marketing is NOT SELLING. So, What is it? Where's the money?

So...What is Affiliate Marketing Anyway?

Affiliate Marketing involves Pre-Selling goods and services for companies who in turn reimburse you for the referral.

Notice that I stated, "Pre-Selling". One of the biggest mistakes that affiliates make is attempting to "sell" goods and services rather than referring potential customers to the seller's site.

Some Effective Affiliates operate their own businesses and then use affiliate programs to provide additional goods and services that may prove useful to their customers.

Other Effective Affiliates participate in Affiliate Marketing that involves referrals only. This method is useful especially if you don't presently have a product or service to offer.

Keep in mind though, that there is a technique to Effective affiliate marketing.

Affiliate Marketing IS NOT building a website filled with zillions of banners.

Affiliate Marketing IS NOT spamming people with your affiliate links.

Affiliate Marketing IS NOT Selling the product or service.

Your goal as an Affiliate Marketer is to make recommendations to companies who produce QUALITY goods and services that can prove to be useful to your customers. You do not want to recommend your customers to companies who produce JUNK or who take the customer's money and runs.

That said, whenever possible, you want to learn as much about the product or service that you are recommending. For instance, if you have a website that is about birds. Now, you've decided to become an affiliate to a couple of e-book authors who write about birds.

It's best if you use the product or service prior to recommending it to customers. While this isn't always possible, it certainly lends to your credibility if you truly believe that the product will service your customer's needs. For instance, before I recommend any ebook to which I am an affiliate, I have first read and found that the information is useful. If I don't find the text useful, I don't recommend it. On the other hand, I also recommend a few web hosting programs. Obviously, I don't have my sites hosted through each web host. But...Believe it...I've thoroughly investigated the companies PRIOR to becoming an affiliate to them and recommending thier services.

Note that recommendations are not always completely positive. If there are possible pitfalls to the product or service, it's ok to say so, to your customer. You've just empowered them to make informed decisions.

You need to develop and then maintain trust with your customers. If you violate that trust by recommending poor quality product or services, you will lose that customer, forever. Don't Do it! The one referral commission is not worth it.

On a lighter note, Affiliate Marketing can prove to be very profitable if you keep the needs of your customers first.

Affiliate programs vary in the referral percent. The range is from 15%-60%, with the average being about 45%.

Some Affiliate programs also have 2tiers. A 2tier affiliate program involves the normal referral percent commission but also adds an additional commission based upon you recruiting other affiliates. Often, you will be compensated 10% of that persons sales...

Please, don't be mislead into thinking that low cost products are not worth your while. For instance, there are scripts that just about any website owner can find useful, which sell for just $4.00. Affiliates earn 50% of the sale. Understand that this product is Easier to gain commissions from since its quality is good and the price is low also. This isn't to suggest to avoid quality, higher priced products or services. The suggestion is that you can make a nice profit from the low cost items as well as the higher cost items.

Bottom line, recommend quality products which are reasonably priced.
