Hebdomas started its activities in the late 1800's, in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The craftmanship of the Swiss watch-makers in La Chaux-de-Fonds is world renowned. This small village situated near to the French border, is also the birth-place of many famous Swiss brands.
Since 1888, all Hebdomas watches have been entirely manufactured by hand, piece by piece. Hebdomas' high standard of quality is rooted in the experience of its highly skilled watch-makers. These famous time-pieces have been awarded several gold medals and distinctions during their long history.
The name Hebdomas is linked to the Cycle of Seven and recalls the festivities of Ebdomee, held in Sparta, Croton and Mileto, which celebrated the birth of Apollo on the seventh day of the month. In ancient Lesbos, sung by poets, such festivities were dedicated to Dionisio, holding many superstitious rituals and beliefs which were linked to the seventh day of the month.
The word Hebdomas, which is taken from the words Hebdomandaire, Ebdomadario, signifies that a watch should be wound up once a week... on the seventh day. This name is a reflection of one of the company's earliest and greatest achievements, the 8 day wrist watch.
The 8 day wrist watch traces its roots back to the original Hebdomas watch by Schild S.A. The unique 8 day movement of this watch was developed and patented by Iréné Aubry of Saignelégier (Switzerland), on the 14th November 1888. The watch, with its exposed balance wheel was a forerunner to automatic watches and was a highly successful line of watches in the early 1900's.
Today's Hebdomas 8 day watches feature a 1930's era redesign of this classic movement that are NOS from the 1960's.
Particular care has always been taken in the manufacturing of Hebdomas watches, each element is meticulously selected and tested, even down to the beautiful enamel dials that adorn each piece. The 8 day time-pieces are still capable of bringing back a certain nostalgia of olden times, and even though, through modern technology, improvements have been made, nothing has changed from the original concept and design.
Hebdomas has always had a creative spirit and the collaboration with Mr. Vincent Calabrese, the master watch-maker of international reputation, is an example of such spirit. Hebdomas has worked with Mr. Calabrese to bring his creation "BALADIN" to the public in a unique interpretation. Through this collaboration,Hebdomas has created its own version of the Calabrese masterpiece. Cased in a bold solid sterling silver case (available with heavy rose gold plating as well) measuring 39mm with hinged lugs, the Baladin is one of the shining stars in the Hebdomas line and is available in several striking dial configurations. This is truly an exceptional watch.
Today Hebdomas concentrates on producing a quality product at an excellent price. They offer the collector an opportunity to obtain rare and interesting complications of a quality and price unmatched by competitors. Hebdomas also offers the collector exclusivity as Hebdomas only manufactures approximately 1500 watches annually.
