What are these important books?

The most important book, of course, is the BIBLE. Start there!

The most important books after the Bible are:

VICTORY OVER THE DARKNESS by Neil Anderson

"Lend me your hope for a while,

I seem to have mislaid mine.
Lost and hopeless feelings accompany me daily,

pain and confusion are my companions.
I know not where to turn;

looking ahead to future times

does not bring forth images of renewed hope.
I see troubled times, pain-filled days,

and more tragedy."

Anderson's experience as a pastor and counselor has made the reality of this poem in the life of Christians stand out in stark contrast to the peace and hope we are supposed to have as God's children. So he wrote Victory over the Darkness to offer hope to Christians living with pain and hopelessness. His main contention: you must understand both who God is, and who you are in God.

Anderson is convinced that living out our identity as children of God can and should bring us hope. This is why he spends the entire first half of the book explaining from Scripture the foundation for our identity in Christ. Only after this foundation is established does Anderson then move on to practical advice for living out our identity as children of God. He reminds us that spiritual growth and maturity must be anchored in the Bible. He also speaks about the important role of emotions in our lives, emphasizing the spiritual ramifications of emotions which are not properly handled.

Anderson's hope is contagious, and this book simply overflows with hope. He has seen his teachings bring real and lasting transformation into the lives of believers, and he is confident it can do the same in your life as well. The power of the truth of the Word of God, along with the support of a truly Christian community, can help you to achieve Victory over the Darkness. It will also bring significant freedom to you life. In the end, you, too, will be able to say:

"Lend me your hope for a while;

a time will come when I will heal,

and I will share my renewal,

hope and love with others."

3 CRUCIAL QUESTIONS ABOUT SPIRITUAL WARFARE by Clinton Arnold

What is Spiritual Warfare? Can a Christian be demon-possessed? Are we called to engage territorial spirits? These provocative questions stand at the heart of evangelical discussions of the supernatural, and they represent the subject of Clinton Arnold's 3 Crucial Questions about Spiritual Warfare. Arnold brings his exegetical skill and extensive knowledge of early Christianity to bear on the contemporary understanding of the spirit realm. "Spiritual warfare is an integral part of the entire Christian experience," the author explains. "To think that a Christian could avoid spiritual warfare is like imagining that a gardener could avoid dealing with weeds. Our goal should be rather to gain an accurate and sober-minded understanding of spiritual warfare, not a view tainted by frightening superstitions and odd practices."

POWERS OF DARKNESS: PRINCIPALITIES & POWERS IN PAUL'S LETTERS by Clinton Arnold

Looking for a Biblical theology on demons, principalities and powers, and our battle with them? Clinton Arnold wrote Powers of Darkness as the first step toward a complete biblical theology on Spiritual Warfare. Arnold sees the danger in the growing influence of the occult and the New Age movement and seeks to help Christians understand the very real problem of Satan and his minions. He focuses on the letters of Paul to see how Paul views the powers and principalities and how we should respond to them.

Though some authors have interpreted principalities and powers as impersonal social, economic and political structures, Arnold argues that the biblical view of principalities and powers is that of organized, powerful and personal beings actively fighting against God and Christianity. As strong as these beings are, Arnold reminds us that Christ has already dealt them a grievous setback in the cross and will totally defeat them when he returns.

Once we have acknowledged the reality of our battle against the principalities and powers, the next question becomes "What can we do?". Arnold offers practical answers to that question, answers that will both inspire and challenge the church to again take up arms in this cosmic struggle against Satan.

OCCULT ABC by Kurt Koch

Theologian Kurt Koch spent much of his life researching the occult and ministering to those affected by it. In Occult ABC he combines those years of work into an informative guide to the practices and ideas that form the foundation of the occult. If you learn its language, its alphabet, you can better combat it. That is the spirit that Occult ABC is written in.

Though some may not agree that all of the practices mentioned in here are occult (charismatic occurences and Pentecostalism come to mind), most will agree that Koch has provided useful information on what is going on in the occult. Each topic includes a brief introductory description, as well as examples from Koch's life and research. Alphabetically arranged, with extensive footnotes, this is a valuable resource for those who have dealt with, are dealing with, or will deal with the occult.

FANTASY AND YOUR FAMILY: EXPLORING THE LORD OF THE RINGS, HARRY POTTER AND MODERN MAGICK by Richard Abanes

This book engages popular culture in the hugely successful stories of Harry Potter, Star Wars, and The Lord of the Rings, Richard Abanes guides the reader through these contemporary fantasy stories, illuminating them with light from the Christian faith journey. The book opens doors to faith-sharing, particularly with young people, while also taking on the issues within the stories that have led some Christians to reject them.

Should Christians be reading fantasy literature? Is there really a difference between the magic and wizards in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series? What about book burning, or banning books? Isn't it better that children read Harry Potter instead of watching television? If you are not satisfied with quick easy answers to these questions, this book will help.

Richard Abanes is a cult/occult expert. He is also a huge fan of fantasy and science fiction literature. The Harry Potter series gave him a unique chance to combine his two passions, and this book is a fascinating look at both the fantasy genre and the two series which best exemplify it. It is also an exposition of the themes, characters and spirituality in The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. Abanes casts an educated eye on the genre of fantasy, looking at both its positive and negative aspects. He even uses child development information to examine how fantasy affects children at various stages of development. He offers parents the information necessary to make wise decisions about what their children are reading.

Abanes never says that Christians should not read Harry Potter. He does point out, however, that some of the fears that have been expressed about the occultic references in Harry Potter are valid, as some children have developed a deeper interest in the occult because of Harry Potter. He has documentation that shows a significant minority of children are more interested in the occult since reading Harry Potter. The most dangerous aspect, in Abanes' mind, is the fact that Rowling and her supporters blithely brush off reports about increased interest in the occult.

One of the most fascinating aspects of this book is the in-depth comparison of The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. Abanes focuses on several moral/religious issues, arguing that the magic in Tolkien is vastly different from the magick (the traditional occultic spelling for the term used when discussing witchcraft, divination, etc.) in Harry Potter. Abanes also answers several important questions about fantasy, in general, and Harry Potter, specifically, that people have been asking. Finally, Abanes explains why the occult needs to be viewed as dangerous for children.

This books is very aptly named. It is designed to give parents vital information about fantasy and its related titles, so they can make informed decisions about what their children are reading. Abanes offers us the information we need, and allows us to make our decisions based on the facts. In the end, he urges parents to act as true guardians of their children, protecting them from those things which seek to harm them.

WHEN THE ENEMY STRIKES: THE KEYS TO WINNING YOUR SPIRITUAL BATTLES by Charles F Stanley

In the Screwtape Letters C.S. Lewis pointed out the perils of either obsessing about spiritual warfare or ignoring it altogether. From all appearances, our generation tends towards the latter error. Thus, When the Enemy Strikes we do not know how to stand firm and overcome the onslaught of the evil one. Fortunately, in this battlemanual Dr. Stanley teaches us how to identify the enemy's activity, stand our ground in battle and cry out for God's power and protection. Let Dr. Stanley teach you how to defend yourself against the enemy's attack and experience God's victory over evil.

JESUS: THE MAN AND HIS WORK by Wallace D Wattles

"Jesus said of himself, 'If I be lifted up I will draw all men unto me.' Well, he has not drawn all men, not even a majority of men, and I am inclined to think that he has never been lifted up. An unreal, imaginary character is being lifted up instead, and men are not being drawn by it."

On November 11, 1905, Wallace D. Wattles, who went on to write some of the most powerful, life changing books ever written, including his classic masterpiece, "The Science of Getting Rich", addressed an audience gathered at the Auditorium in Cincinnati, Ohio to hear him lecture.

In that short, but very powerful lecture, Wallace D. Wattles shattered orthodox misconceptions, misunderstandings and outright misrepresentations of the character and teachings of Jesus and shared his vision of the real Christ and His true call.

The lecture made such a favorable impression on certain listeners that they wanted to have it printed if Wallace D. Wattles provided the manuscript.

That he did and the manuscript was privately printed.

Like many privately printed publications of this type, it had a very limited distribution and like many of them from its day, its few copies quickly disappeared over time never to be seen again...UNTIL NOW!
