Border Control
We are a small business and we hire Mexicans to work for us, but they get paid the same wage as anyone we hire (sometimes I think they make more money than we do!). The Mexicans we hire are not illegal as far as I know. Many of them are U.S. citizens and work more than one job to make ends meet. The reason they need more than one job is because they send their money home to their parents and siblings in Mexico. They share houses with each other and they all work. When they are lazy the rest of them send them home. They don’t tolerate the ones in their group that slack off. We have been hiring Mexicans from the same extended family from Mexico, since 1993. If they lack skills, the other make sure they learn them, I find them to be productive most of the time and have a very good nature about them. They have work ethics, and are loyal. When we do not have enough work for them they get employment through McDonalds or other restaurants to tide them over and some continue to work both jobs. Some who do well in the U.S., legally, are afraid to go home for visit, they fear their children will be kidnapped and held for a ransom. These are all things I have heard directly from the population of legals that I have had acquaintance with.
With that said, I think we need to control the border, however it needs to be done. I have also experienced another side of this issue, the ones who come here illegally and get their papers from a place in California, to work in restaurants owned by legally immigrated Mexicans. However, they are the biggest contributors to the people flowing over the border, illegals know they have work here whether they are illegal or not. They know where to go to get papers and then travel here to Illinois, as in many cities and states across America.
These people (restaurant owners) who are legally immigrating are going back to Mexico and getting the royal treatment when they visit because they have money. They tell them to come and they will help them out if they get here. Cracking down doesn’t only mean at the border there are many places and ways to crack down. Sending them home should be an option. I don’t feel it really is at this point because you almost never hear of any being deported after getting caught here.(thanks Nancy Pelosi, for your legislation that doesn’t allow the groups like law enforcement and immigration to cross reference) Even criminal illegals seem to get many chances before being sent back. I think all illegals should be sent back. And I believe that the Greeks have the same thing going on, it’s just not as easy for them to sneak in here, or as publicized.
I feel like our business’ are under attack for hiring Mexicans, but I can see the issue on both sides. By the time you pay anyone a living wage, match their social security tax and pay the outrageous prices of workers compensation, and insurance for having a business and local towns wanting 1,000,000.00 insurance on your truck (which is utterly ridiculous), I can see why companies hire illegals. On the other hand, if you don’t do all that you are never considered legitimate in the eyes of the “law”.
Great America/Six Flags brings people every year from Czech (I think) to work at the park. Why? Why do we have to do this. They house them and transport them all summer long. I know I drove them back and forth from their dorms at the local naval base to Great America, and other places through out Wisconsin and Illinois where they are housed.
What to do, what to do!!! This is the question? For me, the answer is send them back, block the border and do it right. It’s costing just as much, if not more to have illegals here working. We have enough people here in the U.S. to fill these jobs. If Americans were so fat and lazy we wouldn’t need any foreign workers. Yet these are probably the same people sitting on their ass, complaining about sending work overseas.
Wake up America, smell the coffee on this one!
