John 8:36 states: “If the Son (Jesus) sets you free, you will be free indeed.” The Bible is clear that Jesus Christ sets people free through believing and practicing the truth of his word: “The truth will set you free” (John 8:32).
The ten A’s listed here are key truths from God’s word. They will set you free from a life of bondage to sin and will give you the power to live the life that God desires. These A’s are only effective if you practice them in total honesty and sincerity before God every day – Starting first thing in the morning, and as needed, throughout the day. For the first few times until you know what each Bible reference contains, read through the listed references of Scripture as you work through each “A”.
1. ACKNOWLEDGE MY SIN
I need to confess all my sins to God and turn from them. This means every sin: in thought attitude, word or deed – both from the past and in the present. Allow no hidden sins to remain (2 Chronicles 7:14; I John 1:9; Isaiah 55:6-7; Psalm 51:10; 139:23-24). Key Attitude: God must forgive every sin in my life if I am to experience his freedom.”
2. ADORE THE LORD
I need to praise the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for all that they are and all that they have done, are doing, and will do (Psalm 34:1; 63:4; 103:2; Hebrews 13:15). Key Attitude: “I will praise and thank God for whom he is and what he has done for me”.
3. ADMIT MY NEED OF GOD IN EVERYTHING
(John 15:4-5; 2 Corinthians 12:9-10; Philippians 4:13; Galatians 2:20; James 4:6. Also note the example of the total dependency of Jesus upon his Father: John 5:19, 30; 8:28; 14:10). Key attitude: “Lord, I can’t be it or do it (fill in the blank), but you can in and through me – I need you Lord!”
4. ASK FOR GOD’S HELP IN EVERYTHING WITH THANKSGIVING
Do so in faith, believing that God will give what he has promised me in his word. (Philippians 4:6-7; Hebrews 4:16; James 1:6-6; 4:2; Mathew 7:7-8; I John 5:14-15). Key Attitude: “I will ask and receive from God everything He has promised me.”

5. AFFIRM MY IDENTITY IN CHRIST
(Romans 6-8; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:20; Colossians 3:1-3). Through Christ I am dead to sin and alive to God. I am a new creature in Christ and therefore no longer belong to Satan. I share with Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection and am no longer under the power of sin, self, and Satan. I have the resurrection life of Christ within me, enabling me to live the life that God desires. Key Attitude: “I have new life in Christ Jesus and therefore am no longer under bondage to the old.”
6. AVAILABILITY TO GOD
This is the unconditional surrender of every area of my life to Jesus Christ every moment of every day. Synonyms: “Offer yourselves” (Romans 6:13; 12:1), “Submit yourselves” (James 4:7), “deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23), “give up everything.” (Luke 14:33). Key Attitude: “”I’m yours Lord – all that I am and have”.
7. ACTIVE RESISTANCE AGAINST SATAN
Put on every piece of the armor of God every day in prayer (Ephesians 6:10-18). Since Satan cannot read my mind, I must be verbal so that he can hear me. Verbally resist all attempts of Satan to defeat me. Verbally renounce any of this lies that I have believed or practiced. Verbally stand in the authority of Jesus Christ. Verbally declare my allegiance to Christ (1 Peter 5:8-9; James 4:7 2 Corinthians 10:3-5; Mathew 4:1-11; Romans 8:31, 37). Key Attitude: “I choose to believe in who God is and in what he has declared in his word and I resist all attempts of Satan to defeat me.”
8. ABSOLUTE OBEDIENCE TO GOD’S WILL IN EVERY AREA OF MY LIFE
I will do whatever the Bible tells me to do, and avoid whatever the Bible prohibits. I won’t allow any “hidden closets” in my life. I invite Jesus to have free access to every “room” in my life: my thoughts, actions, attitudes, memories, hurts, decisions, finances, possessions, entertainment, relationships, desires, ambitions, etc. (2 Corinthians 10:5; John 14:15; Matthew 7:21; Luke 6:46; I John 3:21-22). Key Attitude: “I’ll be and do whatever you desire, Lord”.
9. ADVOCATE FOR OTHERS
Others need my prayers as much as I need theirs (2 Timothy 2:1; James 5:16; Ephesians 6:19). Both believers and non-believers need to be prayed for regularly. Key Attitude: “I will remember to pray for the needs of specific people each day.”

10. MYSELF TO A GROUP OF COMMITTED BELIEVERS
I cannot grow in my relationship with God and others without a group of committed Christians to help me. I too need to help others grow in their love for God and each other (Hebrews 10:25; Acts 2:42-47; Ephesians 4:16; I Corinthians 12:27; Romans 12:10). Key Attitude: “I need to love and be loved by other believers in Christian community.”
FINAL REMAINDER:
Yesterday’s victories do not ensure victory today. Freedom must be maintained. Therefore, I need to work through these A’s every day. I must always remember: error will bind me, but “the truth will set me free!” Jesus said it. I now choose to believe it and practice it every moment of every day.
