Once again demonstrating that DLP(TM) technology is the technology of choice for companies entering the projector market for the first time, Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today announced that LG Electronics, Lite-On and Premier would debut DLP(TM) technology-based projectors at InfoComm 2002.

"We are very excited to be working with these new customers," said John Ruhala, Asia Business Development Manager, DLP(TM) Business Products at TI's DLP(TM) Products division. "They bring a wealth of expertise, and will enable us to extend the reach of DLP technology, helping to make it even more pervasive in the market. We're delighted that they've chosen DLP technology for their entry into the projector market."

With over 64,000 employees at 72 business locations around the world, and sales of over $13 billion in 2002, LG Electronics is one of the world's largest consumer electronics companies. Its products include digital appliances, digital displays and media and digital networks, with the company's focus on the digital home networks of the future. The projector that will debut at InfoComm is the RD-JT30. Delivering 1,400 lumens at XGA resolution with a contrast ratio of 500:1, the projector weighs just 1.6kgs. Included inputs are RS232C, DVI-I Digital/Analog, RCA Composite Video, S-Video and RCA. Of particular note is a proprietary color filter drum - incorporated in place of the normal color filter wheel - which the company says allows the RD-JT30 to have a lower height than would otherwise be possible, enables an increased color gamut and reduces operating noise. It will be demonstrated at the LG Electronics suite in the Venetian Hotel.

"Announcement of this new business projector based on DLP technology extends our existing excellent relationship with Texas Instruments," said Eddie Park, Projector Sales Manager for LG Electronics North America. "Our company's focus is on digital appliances, and so DLP technology - with its digital nature - was a natural choice for the RD-JT30. We believe that combining DLP technology with our expertise in optics and electronics will make it a winner."

Founded in 1975, Lite-On is one of the largest IT conglomerates in Taiwan, with projected revenues for 2002 at $4 billion. The company's product offerings range from PC/Internet platforms, communication, networking and peripherals to semiconductors and electronic parts. Lite-On's first projector product will deliver 1,500 lumens at XGA resolution with a contrast ratio of 900:1 yet has a weight of only 3.5lbs. The projector will feature a range of optional add-on modules for multimedia, wireless connection and enhanced video/HDTV. It will be demonstrated at Lite-On's suite in the Venetian Hotel.

"We are very excited about our entry into the projector market," said Charles Chen, Sales Director for Lite-On. "We evaluated a number of technologies for our debut projector, but concluded that DLP technology offered the optimum solution in terms of image quality and in terms of its ability to enable us to develop a projector with the best combination of high brightness and small size. We look forward to continuing to work with Texas Instruments, and expect this to be the first of many successful products."

Premier is one of the world's leading optical technology companies. Headquartered in Taipei, the company has an extensive range of compact cameras. Premier is one of the world's largest suppliers of digital still cameras and the largest manufacturer of digital still cameras in Taiwan. Its debut projector product is the D2300X, delivering 2,100 lumens at XGA resolution with a contrast ratio of 700:1 and weighs approximately 5.5lbs. Other standard features include vertical and horizontal digital keystone correction, 3:2 pull down for film mode, Picture in Picture (PIP) and a signal loop through with data and video. The projector's connectivity capabilities include DVI-I to VGA, S-Video, component video and RCA. Premier can be found on booth 13092 at InfoComm.

"The combination of excellent vivid image for both graphics data and video, optimum performance and high reliability made DLP technology a good opportunity for our debut into the projection display market," said John Huang, CEO of Premier. "Our goal with this product is to deliver the practicality and features our customers want at a great value. We've created a projector that not only fulfills the wants of a widespread of customers, but stands on its own as a strong entry into the projection display market."

DLP(TM) technology delivers the clearest, sharpest, brightest, most accurate images in a broad range of projection and display applications including business projectors, home entertainment projectors, large screen tabletop TVs, video walls and projection systems used in commercial entertainment. DLP Cinema(TM) technology, which delivers large screen images that are superior in many respects to film, is helping to revolutionize the movie industry. Today, TI supplies DLP(TM) subsystems to almost all the world's top projector manufacturers, who then design, manufacture and market projectors based on DLP(TM) technology. Since early 1996, over 1,000,000 DLP(TM) subsystems have been shipped. Over the past four years, DLP(TM) technology-based projectors have consistently won some of the audio-visual industry's most prestigious awards, including, in June 1998, an Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

At the heart of TI's Digital Light Processing(TM) technology is the Digital Micromirror Device optical semiconductor chip. The DMD switch has an array of up to 1,310,000 hinged, microscopic mirrors which operate as optical switches to create a high resolution, full color image.
