Every day, just by breathing, drinking, and eating you take in a wide variety of chemicals and toxins into your system.
-Your body uses up a lot of essential nutrients and burns a lot of energy working to neutralize and eliminate these substances.
- If not eliminated on a regular basis chemicals and toxins build up in your body and cause problems just like pollution causes problems in rivers, lakes, and oceans.
- The buildup of toxins and your body's constant effort to eliminate them burns up vital nutrients, drain energy, weakens the immune system, makes you more susceptible to allergies, colds and flu, makes you more sensitive to aches and pains, makes it difficult to lose weight and affects your health in a variety of negative ways.
Your body is constantly expending energy (life force) to handle the ongoing challenge of trying to eliminate chemicals and toxins. Because energy is limited in any given day, the more you spend on "internal house keeping" the less you have for other things.
Many people suffer with tiredness & fatigue because a build-up of toxins can drain your energy in much the same way leaving headlights on overnight would drain the life out of a car battery.
There is no chance of enjoying vibrant energy and dynamic long-term health if your energy is being drained out of your body by the constant effort to purge your system of stored up chemicals and toxins.
There is a solution, but lets examine the facts so you can decide if chemicals and toxins are a threat to YOU. After all, not everyone lives in the shadow of a chemical plant or in the middle of a crowded city.
ARE CHEMICALS AND TOXINS REALLY A THREAT?
Are YOU exposed to chemicals and toxins on a daily basis? Take a look at this list and decide for yourself.
CHEMICALS AND TOXINS YOU PROBABLY COME IN CONTACT WITH PRACTICALLY EVERY DAY INCLUDE . . .
- Food additives, including nitrates, food dyes and preservatives. Over 7800 man-made chemicals and non-nutritive substances are approved for use in food processing.
- Exposure to detergents, solvents, cleaning fluids, adhesives and fumes from paint, gasoline or automobile is practically unavoidable. You don’t have to come into direct contact for these things to affect you; just smelling them means the molecules have entered your lungs and your blood stream.
- Agricultural chemical contaminants. Like it or not, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and growth hormones are commonly used in crop production. Crops are routinely sprayed with a wide variety of chemicals and not one of them can be used inside your body.
- Hormones, steroids and antibiotics you get with out even knowing. Chickens, cows and pigs are routinely injected with hormones and antibiotics that end up in the hamburger, chicken dinners, steaks, and bacon. Even fish is a concern. Warnings have been issued over lead and mercury contamination in tuna and “farm raised” fish of any type is nowhere near as nutritious as fish caught in their natural environment.
- Insecticide Is Everywhere - To comply with health department regulations, practically every grocery store in America is equipped with Automatic Insecticide Dispensers spray fruits and vegetables with insecticide just to keep bugs away! How well do you wash your fruit and vegetables?
- Exposure to insecticide is much worse than you know. Not only do grocery stores dowse the fruit and vegetables with insecticide, because of health department regulations regarding flying insects, practically every restaurant, cafe, coffee shop, hospital, school lunch counter, and fast food place is equipped with AUTOMATIC INSECTICIDE DISPENSERS that "freshen the air" and keep the place free of flying insects. But what about the food? What about your lungs
- Microbial toxin contamination. Mold and fungus contamination of crops is a widespread problem.
- Inorganic contaminants such as the heavy metals cadmium and lead sometimes find their way into air, water and food supply. (Cigarette smoke is loaded with cadmium and some candles have lead infused wicks that throw off lead contamination in the air that is thousands of time higher than the "safe" limit.)
- Chemicals formed in the cooking of food. Burning or charring food, especially meat, causes the formation of many different chemicals; none of which can be used to build strength, health and vitality in your body.
- Natural toxins. Many plants produce natural toxins that protect them from insects, fungus, and so on. While not acutely toxic to humans, these toxins play no part in building health and vitality and MUST be eliminated, further increasing the detoxification chore your body is constantly performing.
- Toxins that are the natural by-products of metabolism and energy production. Your body is a highly complex bio-chemical production plant that is run by self-generated electricity and production plants produce waste products. The fact that a toxin is the natural result of a natural metabolic process does not change the fact that it is a toxin and must be eliminated.
This list was inspired in part by the work of Dr. Walter Willet in his book Nutritional Epidemiology, published by Oxford University Press.
Another class of substances that creates a detoxification challenge for your body includes things like caffeine, nicotine and alcohol.
I’m not saying that a cup or coffee or an occasional glass of wine is a problem, I am saying that that caffeine, nicotine, alcohol and the chemical preservatives used in wine play no part in building health and therefore must be neutralized and flushed out of your body.
Chemicals produced in response to STRESS are extremely powerful and can do great damage
Processing and eliminating stress chemicals as they occur is a high priority activity that burns energy, consumes nutrients and can leave you with much less energy than you would have otherwise.
There's no doubt about it. Odds are that every day you are exposed to a variety of chemicals, toxins and substances that your body can NEVER use to build strength, health and vitality.
Whether or not these substances are toxic they must ALL be neutralized and purged from your body on a regular basis.
If these substances are not eliminated, they will build up, clog you up, drag you down and could seriously damage your health.
Your body burns up a lot of energy working to neutralize toxins and purge them from your body. It makes good sense to do anything you reasonably can to take some of that load off your body. This is WHY regular detoxification is so important to your health.
Detoxifying can make a GIGANTIC DIFFERENCE in the way you look, feel and function
THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF PROPER DETOXIFICATION ARE ENORMOUS! HERE ARE JUST A FEW.
More energy
Fewer Allergies
Stronger Immunity
Less Inflammation
Healthier Skin and Hair
DETOXIFICATION, WEIGHT LOSS & HEALTH
Chemicals and toxins can build up in your system and cause problems regardless of your body weight. But when body fat begins to accumulate, that usually means toxins are accumulating too. Body fat accumulation, especially around the mid section, is a visible sign of toxic build up and a good indication that the liver is not functioning as efficiently as it should.
WHEN TOXINS BUILD UP FASTER THAN YOU CAN ELIMINATE THEM, YOUR BODY MAKES NEW FAT CELLS TO STORE THEM.
IF TOXINS BUILD UP FASTER THAN THEY CAN BE ELIMINATED, IN AN ATTEMPT TO PROTECT YOUR ORGANS, YOUR BODY WILL ACTUALLY MAKE BODY FAT FOR THE SPECIFIC PURPOSE OF STORING TOXINS AS FAR AWAY FROM VITAL ORGANS AS POSSIBLE.
It's kind of like putting the toxins in jail and "the jail" is made of fat cells. This fat is then stored as far away from the vital organs as possible and deposited throughout the body; under the chin, under the arms, on the back and hips, and especially around the middle.
EVERYTHING that crosses your lips or skin MUST be used by your body, OR, it must be neutralized and eliminated as a waste product. Otherwise it is STORED in your body and piles up like garbage. Fat that is made to serve as "a jail cell for toxins" is particularly stubborn fat that is very difficult to lose UNLESS you decrease the toxic load and you do something to help your body detoxify.
DETOXIFICATION BY THE LIVER.
Your liver performs hundreds of jobs in your body and those jobs have a direct affect on your body weight, your energy level and your health.
If your liver gets overloaded toxins begin circulating in your blood and, besides making you feel tired and sluggish, those toxins can damage your organs and glands, cause increased inflammation in your body, cause headaches, cause weight gain, and generally make you feel bad.
Acne, chronic headaches, chronic fatigue, a poor complexion, lack-luster hair and a build up of fat around the midsection are just a few of the common symptoms of an overworked liver.
Two ways your liver directly affects your body weight ...
1) The production of bile, and,
2) Detoxification, which is the neutralization of potentially dangerous toxins and the elimination of chemicals and toxins.
Without sufficient bile your body cannot break down and assimilate fat efficiently, which means weight gain is guaranteed and weight loss will seem almost impossible.
Without effective neutralization of toxins and on-going detoxification, toxins build up in your body. And toxic build up can result in a wide variety of symptoms, complaints, problems and diseases.
If your liver is sluggish and bile production insufficient, instead of breaking down fat, fat gets STORED AWAY, usually in a jelly role around your middle.
Constant stress on the liver interferes with both bile production and detoxification, leading to tiredness and fatigue, WEIGHT GAIN, and toxic build up inside the body.
REGULAR DETOXIFICATION IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE REGULAR DETOXIFICATION HELPS PREVENT TOXIC BUILD-UP AND SUBSEQUENT WEIGHT GAIN.
Preventing toxic build-up helps keep your liver functioning at peak efficiency. And a well-functioning liver gives you many fat burning, energy building, and health enhancing benefits.
Besides being an "organ of detoxification", your liver is a busy manufacturing plant that makes DOZENS of bio-chemicals you must have on a daily basis for your body to function properly.
For Example . . .
Carnitine is an important nutrient made in your liver.
Carnitine is important in FAT BURNING and in ELIMINATING TOXINS from the part of the cell where energy is actually produced, the mitochondria.
If your liver becomes overloaded with toxins, OR, if you are lacking the essential nutrients needed for optimal liver function, then the detoxification process orchestrated by your liver becomes sluggish; toxins accumulate in your body; AND NATURAL CARNITINE PRODUCTION DROPS OFF.
Without sufficient carnitine, cells cannot burn fat efficiently, metabolism slows, and you have less energy as more and more toxins build up inside the cell.
This is just one simple example. Your liver makes dozens of metabolic substances you MUST have to be healthy. If toxins overload your body, your natural production of each of these substances will suffer.
These are just a few of the reasons why PROPER detoxification pays such big health dividends.
By the way, the raw material your body needs so your liver can make carnitine from protein.
BEWARE OF THE LIVER ASSASSINS!
Things that put EXTRA STRESS on your liver and can seriously interfere with the livers ability to make bile and to detoxify include:
- Sugar and artificial sweeteners because they have no nutritive value and processing them burns up vital nutrients your liver needs to function properly.
- Trans-fatty acids because their extra toxic nature burns essential nutrients like a blowtorch and directly interferes with both bile production and detoxification.
- Most over the counter pain relievers and practically all prescription drugs, including blood pressure and cholesterol drugs. These substances put a HEAVY toxic burden on the liver.
- Regular alcohol consumption, because ultimately alcohol will pickle your liver and a pickled liver is a dead liver.
- Constipation, because the liver empties toxins into the colon and if the colon is backed up, the liver dumps the toxins into fat cells, and the toxins are retained in the body.
