The story read like so; It was a dark hallow space between the paws of the Sphinx. Inside no light was to shine save that which came off the lamps each pillar eleven on each side made up the twenty-two images of Thoth also known as the Book of Thoth, The book of Knowledge of Good and Life. It was a fantastic tale of a tomb of one of the ancient gods, a final resting place for the weary bones of Thoth, the God of knowledge who taught mankind first how to write, and to keep historic records in the pictorial alphabet that became known around the world as ancient hieroglyphs.
It is said that all of the knowledge of all the universe is hidden in the keys of the twenty two pillar paintings that make up the book of Thoth, and that no knowledge beyond them is attainable by human comprehension. Fables aside is there such a tomb or temple located under the great sphinx in Egypt? No one seems to know. Archeologists are at odds with the ancient accounts of both the book and the location of the temple some saying it is right where it is said to be, others saying there is nothing there to be found? But it looks like neither will ever be proven to be right, or by default neither will be proven to be wrong either, because Egypt has decided not to pursue a dig that would unravel this mystery once and for all in fear for the great sphinx's safety itself. Experts tend to agree that excavating the area could lead to more structural damage to the sphinx, and so the dig for knowledge at least for now has been put off till another day.
The sphinx still hides it's secrets because of a simple but very effective amour plating. A shelf of granite plating that seems to cover the entire Gaza Plateau. It can not be penetrated with any radar, sonar or x-ray devices so no one can say for sure whether or not there is a hallow place beneath the sphinx that would warrant damaging the relic to dig down to see. No one it seems is willing to take the chance, and with good reason. The great sphinx is one of the last known relics of this ancient culture to remain after the test of time, and the erosion of the dessert sands.
The great sphinx has for centuries instilled fear in foreigners who have dared to cross it's path along the road of destiny. The Ancient Muslims called it "Father of Terror" which is one of the greatest honors or worst be it the case may warrant, that they would bestow on any inanimate object such as a pagan statue. They refused to destroy it, or the pyramids that it has guarded as a silent sentinel for over four thousand years. It and it alone stands ominously in the sand forever reminding us of the lost civilization of the Ancient Egyptian Empire.
