The summer is the season of meetings! Learning by other people’s errors.
So, two out of three summer months have passed. We’ve met a lot of guests during this time! They were men from America, Europe and even Australia! They all met with our women successfully and not and each of them had a situation he’d better have avoided. Let’s talk about other people’s mistakes, to avoid them!
Problem No.1 – Money.
Most frequently foreigners have problems with taking out cash. It is obvious that no one takes a risk to carry a big sum of money in cash. It is sensible. But what is the way out?
- PLASTIC CARDS.
It doesn’t matter whether it is a credit card or debit one. Pay attention only to which company it belongs. If it is VISA or MasterCard, you will get your money. If it belongs to any other company, then unlikely! The matter is that electronic, cashless and other systems like these started developing only recently in Russia.
That’s why:
- everything works instable;
- only the largest companies have come out at the market.
- TRAVEL CHECKS.
Don’t count on them a lot. For instance, in Kazan there is only one bank where you can cash travel check, but it must be perfectly filled in. If it doesn’t have at least one signature or any other necessary information, you will not take out your money! It is also connected with the fact that the service is new for us and everyone is afraid of making a mistake.
- CASH
There is a risk to become a victim of thieves. Foreigners are the tastiest morsels for them. The efforts are the same, but the profit is bigger, since it is in foreign currency :).
Besides, foreigners often have to be at the airports and train stations, which are the usual habitats of thieves.
Advice:
- Use underclothes bag for money - Money belt.
- Carry only the sum of money in cash you will need for the first time.
- Use the possibility to pay in advance for some services you will obviously need (transfer, booking, lodging)
- ALTERNATIVE WAY
You can send money to yourself by one the systems like Western Union. Just write the city you are going to, your first and last name as a recipient. Memorize the 9-numbers code and present it alongside with the passport in the city where you sent money. It is very easy! The only disadvantage is a large percent for transfer. On the other hand, it is better to lose some percent of the sum, than the whole sum in case you are robbed. Everyone decides for himself!
- WHAT SUM TO COUNT ON
Journey. If you haven’t booked transfer, then you will need cash to pay for the taxi from the airport to the hotel. In Kazan it is about $30, in Moscow – $50-100.
Also think how you will go around town during your visit. If by taxi, then have cash for this purpose.
Hotel. 50-180 dollars per day for three stars (practically everywhere plastic cards are accepted).
Food. Unless you eat in the most expensive restaurants, dinner in Kazan for two persons will cost about $30 (about 100 dollars a day). In some Moscow restaurants you can pay $100 for one dinner. But not all the restaurants accept plastic cards.
NB: Remember that you can pay only Russian currency on the territory of Russia. Dollars, euro and other currencies are not accepted anywhere, even if the prices are stated in them.
You have to pay entrance fee in some places such as: nightclubs, some restaurants, museums, concert halls, aqua parks and so on. You always must pay cash for this.
Well, and the single point – entertainment. It depends on your budget and fantasy. But as a rule you will need cash.
Summing up, I would like to give you one universal advice: if you pay for the services, pay only in cash. And as for purchases, you can pay some of them with plastic card. And the main advice: preparing for the trip, combine several ways of payment for purchases and services. Think over the situations what you will do if one or several ways will appear to be unavailable. It is very important!
Problem No.2: interrelations with girls.
DATE.
Who taught you how to keep a date? Western women? Put this lesson out of your head! :))
If you go to a date with a Russian woman, buy her some flowers! Maybe even one flower (about $4-5). The main thing is attention! You are looking for old values, aren’t you? Then it is time for you to recollect how men court women in dear old times. Are you writing down? :)
So, don’t forget:
- a bouquet of flowers
- compliment (it should be sincere!)
- gallantry and good manners (help her open the door, take off her coat, move up the chair in a restaurant and so on)
- the air of romance (don’t tell her during your first date the history of your family way back to the 10th generation, illustrating it with pictures and papers).

COMPLIMENTS.
I’ll tell you a funny story, but it is real!!! A couple and a translator (Sabina, you know her) are sitting in a restaurant.
He: Let all the women go away from here!
(Sabina translates, the woman is perplexed)
He: You outshine them with your beauty!
(The woman is in shock, thinks that it is the difference in mentality. Sabina explains that it is a compliment.
In a while:
He: Is your father an alien?
Sabina translates.
She: Why does he think so? Is he mad?
He: I have never seen such an unearthly beauty!
She: Sabina, is he mocking at me?
Sabina again explains that it is a compliment. She mustn’t be angry with him!
In a while:
He: Give me your hand!
She gives.
He: I will put your fingers in my tea and it will become sweeter!
She: Sabina!!! If he doesn’t stop telling me these silly compliments, our date will end! He is mocking at me!
:))) These compliments would be masterpieces of wit if they were just an anecdote. But it is a real story. Never pay such compliments!!!
And what compliments are good?
I will disclose you a secret: ALL women worry that they will look not so attractive for you in life, as in the pictures. Do tell her: “You are even more beautiful in life, than in the pictures!” it is so simple! Sometimes tired of waiting for these words women ask men directly if she justified his expectations. Be gentlemen and calm your lady down!
The second secret: ALL women make careful preparation before going to date: they are exhausted with choosing a dress, they do their nails and make up. So much time and effort they spent on it. They come to date so beautiful! And naturally they want to hear that their efforts are noticed! Strangely enough, but all our translators are of the same opinion: foreign men never tell their ladies: “You look so wonderful today!” (Sabina suggested continuing this phrase: “I suppose it is for me? Thank you, I am very pleased!”. Do you have different customs of courting a woman in your country? It is amazing! Don’t forget that a compliment from her fiancée can make a woman happy!
- MANNERS
Forget about feminists! If you help a woman get out of the car or move up a chair in a restaurant, you will not hear accusations of all human sins, threats to bring an action against sexual harassment. :)) You will get (for choice) a smile, “thank you” or conclusion about good manners!
NB. Some men take offence at women what she didn’t hug him and didn’t kiss his cheek. Don’t be amazed: it is not appropriate here! Only close friends behave like this. Long time can pass from the first glance till the first kiss on cheek. Be patient! (Conservative values, by the way! :))
NB-2. Our women (most of them) are very shy. Especially in the beginning of acquaintance. Especially in what concerns money expenses. If you suggest her to go to a restaurant, most likely she will refuse not to burden you financially. Make a decision yourself! Sabina tells: “A man must decide to go to a restaurant himself and order food for her. Women, as a rule, can’t overcome their shyness and then get angry. Or even worse, tell that a man appeared to be greedy!” :))
NB-3. If you doubt that you get adequate reaction to your words, ask some Russian (who can speak English, of course) how he/she would react to these words. Possibly, you don’t take into consideration the difference of mentalities! If you go to Kazan or any other town of our net, then you always can turn for consultation to members of our team.
